Welcome!

Hello friends and welcome to my new blog!

Here, you can expect to find a variety of thoughts and experiences related to what I feel are three of the most important things in life – travel, health, and delicious food!

As you may have guessed, I don’t believe each of these topics are mutually exclusive. I believe a healthy lifestyle begins with what we put into our bodies; we are, after all, the sum of what we eat. I also believe one of the most influential ways to develop a healthy mind is through travel; to experience people and places that we’re unfamiliar with to help us shape an accurate and positive (because 99.9% of the world is good) perception of the world around us. Peace of mind comes with the perception of – and contribution to – a peaceful environment.

I also believe that a healthy body cannot exist without a healthy mind, and vice-versa. What good is it to hone piece of mind if you’re unable to go out and share it with the rest of the world? What good is it to have physical strength if you’re unable to welcome a stranger with an open heart and inquiring mind?

For those reasons – among many others – happiness, to me, is the sum of both physical and mental strength, both of which can never be perfected but can always be strengthened through constant willpower, resolve, and acceptance.

Ok, so, what else does it mean to have a “healthy mind,” and what else does it mean to have a “healthy body?” What needs to be done to accomplish both? My hope, with this blog, is to create some kind of community where people can come together to support each other through personal struggles, resolutions, and accomplishments. Maybe, collectively, we can strengthen our minds and bodies with the help of friends and strangers brought together by a common goal.

While I’m not claiming to be an expert (by any means) in either physical or mental/emotional health, I feel that I’ve lived a life that’s included numerous emotional and physical challenges that have led me to where I am today: a genuinely happy, physically confident person that embraces challenges and risks to try to become a better person than I was yesterday.

So, what next? Many of my posts will center around weight loss and working out, as these are topics I frequently get questions about from friends. Between those may be posts about travel, personal experiences, hardships and/or accomplishments, and thoughts about whatever else is zipping through my mind.

Please feel free to comment and contribute. If you would like to share your thoughts or advice on anything I write, I’d be happy to post it if it will serve to help others who may also read this blog. Most of what I’ll be discussing (weight training, weight loss, travel, food, accomplishments, struggles) can be viewed through different lenses by different people. I like that, and I hope to be able to share any and all varying perspectives with anyone interested in reading about them.

Cheers!

Josh

  1. So, where do blueberries in the pancakes fit into the above diagram??
And by maple syrup, I’m assuming the grown-up Josh has graduated to the real stuff – collect it from the tree, apply heat to leave just the pure, concentrated maple goodness. I seem to remember none of you guys going for my good stuff back in the day, when the store bought Aunt Jemima Light was the syrup of choice (which I do admit was pretty good).

    1. Oh I graduated to the good stuff a LONG time ago! It took me years to realize the mistakes I was making. 😉

Whenever Tim gets some of your stuff we treat it like liquid gold now!!

I hope you’re doing well, Jim. Happy New Year!
